The plaza was an important open space where people could gather for ceremonies and other community activities. Several major structures surrounded it, making it a central part of Lamanai. The plaza also helped connect different buildings and areas of the site. Looking at the plaza gives us an idea of how the Maya organized their city and created spaces for public activities. It shows that Lamanai was not just a collection of temples but an organized community.
